Blew Balls

The Braves. The Atlanta Braves. 14 consecutive years to the post season. 1 world series in 1995. And yesterday, losing longest game in post season history (18 innings), after being up 6-1 in the 8th inning, after being 1 out away from winning in the 9th - hurt. It just hurt.

Many people criticize the Braves fan base for not publicly supporting the team enough by selling out the ball park in the post season, but the real fans already know how this thing ends because we watched ever damn game on TV through the year - all 162 of them. We know that this team (admittedly great) is built for a marathon, but the playoffs are a sprint.

Southerners tend to be very private people, don't like to be rude or cause a fuss. So, when you know the final answer; and you know you just want to be alone - why force yourself to be in public and put up a good front.

Next year, the Braves will be back, young team, nucleus, spring - shit, I don't know.

I started watching the game in the 14th or 15th inning. This game was so freaking long that it took like 10 minutes to recap on SportsCenter. I've seen it twice already. (gotta love holiday weekends!)

The Braves have Won Too Much, in my opinion. Next to lose: hopefully the Yankees.

Mr. Norbizness hails from the Houston media market, I'm afraid.

Heathen.

Ahh, so the man from "Enron Field" claiming my team is part of the cruel corporate machine. I see...

Hey, that hand movement entertained me throughout college. Wait, what are we talkign about again?

I wish they'd stop it with Clemens's "heroics." At least he didn't have a bloody ankle for them to keep showing us.

I think it's pretty un-ironic that all year the Atlanta papers have been full of nothing but scorn for the Braves' bullpen. All the sports radio shows have been talking about how Bobby Cox needs to get some real relief pitching in, or they were going to blow up in the playoffs. For once the gasbags were 100% correct.

To appease Braves fans, in a scenario made possible by 18 innings, perhaps we could call game 3 a tie and game 4 a win for the Astros.

But then their series record would be 0-3-1. I can't think of any math fuzzy enough to create a victory for them. All they needed was some decent pitching. Chew slowly to avoid choking.

Choking? At least they made it to the dinner table.

Hey, where do teams that finish at the bottom of the NL East get to eat?

Dammit! For some reason my comments are not posting.
Anyway, Dave, what I had said was that I spent my summers eagerly awaiting our family's annual trek to the ATL to use the front row, behind-the-visitors-dugout seats my mom scored us via biz connections, so if you need someone to help with the kneecap breaking for all the haters out there, I am your woman!

Dale Murphy, bitches!

I might have expected a Braves fan to bully on the baby Nats!

As it so happens, they don't know where to eat cuz they're new in town. Once they get their bearings, let the competition beware! It's amazing what unconditional fan support will do. Not that an Atlantan would know what that's about. Ha!
