I've been a long-suffering Braves fan for decades now, but I think I've just found my second-favorite team:
WASHINGTON - Greeted with loud boos and some cheers, Vice President Dick Cheney threw out the ceremonial first pitch Tuesday at the Washington Nationals’ home opener.
He stood directly in front of the mound and released a ball that hit the dirt in front of home plate. Nationals catcher Brian Schneider scooped it up.
Cheney wore a red-and-blue Nationals jacket that seemed bulky, perhaps filled out by a bulletproof vest. Security agents ringed the top edge of the outdoor stadium.
I was saying Boo-urns...
ReplyDeletep.s. I am kicking myself for not coming up with this.
ReplyDeleteI mean, it was right there, just waiting for me...
...sigh...
There's a reason I raced to get the post online, Bob. You have a sickness.
ReplyDeleteI love the Boo-urns thing.
ReplyDeleteAs someone said on another blog (Think progress?), at least Cheney didn't hit someone in the face.
And that wasn't a bulletproof vest Cheney was wearing. The lining of his jacket was jammed full of signed Nats gear.
Go to YouTube and watch the video. there are a couple different feeds. Watch the AP feed, and then the FOX feed.
ReplyDeleteOn FOX, they have no audio for his intro, just a blabbering studio host. There are snippets of crowd noise between his comments (you can just imagine his earpiece, with the producer screaming, "Keep talking! They're booing him!"). He follows that up with "looked like a pretty good pitch. Over the plate. Maybe a little low." They cannot help themselves...
The catcher then makes a beeline for the dugout, pretty much completely blowing Cheney off. Seriously, the guy runs away like he's afraid there's about to be an assassination attempt.
The catcher probably wanted to boil his hands in oil to get off the Cheney cooties.
