O Bama

In what may be the best ad of the entire campaign, legendary bluegrass musician Ralph Stanley has a radio ad on the air in southwestern Virginia endorsing Barack Obama. It's a terrific ad, and smartly targeted to Obama's weakest spot in a crucial swing state.

TPM has the audio. Give it a listen.

My colleague at the firm I work at is from Virginia. She said that this is huge; that this guy is the one guy who every single coal miner in VA, WV, KN and TN listen to. She couldn't believe that Obama got this endorsement and that he did this spot for him.

Yeah, I'm a Stanley fan and you can't imagine the amount of credibility he has with older white southerners in the rural and mountain South. He's as authentic a voice to them as they come.

Seriously, Jesus Christ could come back and endorse Obama and it might not do as much good.

I have no idea who this guy is, but I listened to the ad and it sound great. I love the part about him being a family man.

If you're not a bluegrass fan, you still might have heard him before. He was featured a little bit on the soundtrack for "O Brother Where Art Thou?"

His song "O Death" was used in the Klan scene.

McCain is toast.

I'm not suggesting cause and effect here, but Obama is suddenly up 10 points in the last two state polls in Virginia.

Ah, to hell with it -- Ralph Stanley is a golden god!
