Maybe Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt and his staff are just in denial. Or maybe they don't read the papers, thus missing the sad news that Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) died Monday, seven months after he was diagnosed with leukemia.I guess you're not dead until the Decider decides you are.
Whatever the case, Leavitt's office called Thomas's office late Thursday afternoon to request a meeting with the late senator. Needless to say, grief-stricken Thomas staffers were stunned.

I wonder if they drew straws in the office to see who got to call the Secretary back and break the day-old news.
Well, ya know, they got all them senators. Hell, there must be dozens of 'em. Some are always on a junket or off somewhere speaking. Others are out sick or something. So, how's a Bush Cabinet agency supposed to keep track?
OTOH, if the newest rookie on the Halliburton board of directors were to twist his ankle, a top exec at Exxon Mobile were to end up in intensive care or a Blackwater manager were to croak . . .
