Rudy Giuliani is a true American hero, and we know this because he does all the things we expect of heroes these days -- like make $16 million a year, and lobby for Hugo Chávez and Rupert Murdoch, and promote wars without ever having served in the military, and hire a lawyer to call his second wife a "stuck pig," and organize absurd, grandstanding pogroms against minor foreign artists, and generally drift through life being a shameless opportunist with an outsize ego who doesn't even bother to conceal the fact that he's had a hard-on for the presidency since he was in diapers. In the media age, we can't have a hero humble enough to actually be one; what is needed is a tireless scoundrel, a cad willing to pose all day long for photos, who'll accept $100,000 to talk about heroism for an hour, who has the balls to take a $2.7 million advance to write a book about himself called Leadership. That's Rudy Giuliani. Our hero. He's just getting started there, and headed to a conclusion that judges Guiliani to be "worse than Bush." Read the rest.

Ru-dy! Ru-dy! Ru-dy!
Matt Tiabbi has a piece on Rudy Giuliani in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. It's hard to tell how he feels about him:

I can't wait for the "Guiliani Children Against Guiliani" commercials.
That shouldn't hurt him. The GOP's not really big on the whole "family values" schtick.
Ooh. I just read the latest in Vanity Fair on him.
Very skeevy.
I love it. Taibbi scewering scoundrels in the NY Press . . . and Rudy being a scoundrel. Memories of my NYC days of yore.
Great piece - and I loved that there wasn't that picture of him in drag. I actually had a "discussion" with someone about how Democrats persecute transvestites and are against gays because we keep showing that picture.
If I never see that picture again, it will be too soon.
Is Rudy really a transvestite? No? Then we're not persecuting them, any more than we'd be persecuting African-Americans if we circulated images of Newt Gingrich in blackface.
I'm guessing your "discussion" was with a certain Green Party trust-fund kid. Correct?
