Friday Random Nothing

I'm on the road this week and unable to post the Random Ten.

While I can only assume that this will ruin New Year's weekend for many of you, and destroy the remainder of the '00s for a select, sad few, I simply can't get it done. The ugly album covers and snarky comments about ABBA can only come directly from the home base.

To keep the musical love alive, let's use the comments here as an open thread for all things musical. What new music from the past year rocked your own little corner of the world?

The Gossip totally rocked my world in '06.

Hell yeah. Seriously. If I had a band, The Gossip is what I'd want it to sound like.

Sidebar: Portland's Swan Island, and their album "The Centre Will Hold," was a nice treat, too.

It's a recent discovery, but I'm going to nominate Midlake. "Young Bride" and "Roscoe" are two sweet, sweet songs.

not a huge Gossip fan, but the Swan Island is growing on me, and Midlake did have a nice little outing...but my '06 sounds much like my '05 with big props to The Hold Steady and the hold-outs (hehehe) Lucero...happy to see the freak folk movement subside a bit (and return to a simpler, happier folky sound)and nice to see heavyish metal flex a little indie muscle (although I think that has already run it's proverbial course) and all it all (read, i still haven’t heard the whole album) I was mighty impressed with Colin and Company's chutzpah with major label release The Crane Wife....and along the same lines, I'm still trying to let TV on the Radio's Cookie Mnt sink in, finally returning to gnarls barkley now that the hype has died down, still enjoying (but not blow away by Neko)and still dissapointed with my Outkast homies.......

It's been well-documented, but I will reiterate...

The Raconteurs "Broken Boy Soldiers" has cemented itself in my all-time Top Ten (if not Top Three) Albums.

I might just as well seal the slot on my car CD player, it has taken up permanent residence. "Level", "Hands" and "Intimate Secretary" are so good I don't think I could ever get sick of them.

Other than that, I don't have alot to offer, 2006 was the year of ripping CDs from the library, not buying new music, for me.

i just wanted to add a few that initally slipped my mind (damn dead brain cells cluttering up my melon)...Hem's Funnel Cloud, Old Crow Medicine Show's Big Iron World and both Avett Brother's releases Four Thieves Gone and The Gleam as well as Chris Thile's How To Grow a Woman ... whichdeserves at least an honorable mention....
