As part of our continuing effort to bring you the latest news within three or four days of when it happened -- maybe a full week, tops -- I'd like to direct your attention to Sen. Carl Levin's appearance on "Fox and Friends."
I know most of you have already seen this on the internets, or at least the small bit that closed out last night's "Daily Show," but it's really worth watching the whole thing. Crooks & Liars has the full segment, and it beautifully shows why News Corp's morning show has a name more appropriate for a children's program. Ridiculous.

Yeah, I managed to completely miss out on the smackdown administered by Levin. And I wasn't even on vacation!
Thanks for the link - that was awesome!
I only wish I could read lips to see what that idiot was muttering as they went to commercial. I bet the word "poopyhead" was in there.
C&L has another clip from the wacky "Fox and Friends" zoo crew, where the ditzy blonde counterpart muses aloud about some rumors she heard about the NYT's Bill Keller and how someone should start mentioning them on the air.
Very subtle. "Nice reputation you got here. Be a shame if sumthin' happened to it."
Yeah, he was totally going to embarass himself when they went to commercial. The gall of Levin, criticizing a Fox Friend. I'm guessing the guy ran to the bathroom and cried himself silly.
Hopefully he powdered some of the flop sweat from his face while he was there.
I think anyone to the left of John McCain should just boycott Fox. Let them preach to the truly converted.
At least I get Levin to make up for the waste of space that is Stabenow. Love that crotchety old bastard.
While you're over at C&L check out the newest Cafferty File.
That Cafferty clip is great. I read somewhere else that he said they got 500 emails on the issue and only 2 supported the president.
My favorite question:
"Do you think, Senator Levin, that the Preznit enjoys having troops in Iraq and keeping troops there longer than they need to be?"
And his little utterance and head shake at the end....loved it. Stupidhead. I did so interview you...stupid notes...stupid producers..."
That line about do-you-think-he-enjoys-it is the new conservative talking point. I think they're hoping someone will take the bait and say he's enjoying the political ramifications of it, yes. Then they can say, look, the Democrats are politicizing it some more.
The right answer, I think, would be to say, no, obviously the president must not enjoy having our troops risk their lives for no reason, but he clearly doesn't worry about them enough to come up with an actual exit strategy.
Something like that. Except the argument and execution would be much smoother.
I like the idea of a boycott of Fox, Norb, but the problem is that there are plenty of Liebermans and Colmes in the party who'd fill the void if the liberals left. They give the imprimatur of bipartisanship support to Bush's most boneheaded moves and make those with a spine look like raving lunatics.
Given that alternative, I'd rather have Levin and company go on there and kick the rightwing hosts squarely in the nards.
As long as they are there to kick ass like Levin (or occasionally Biden) I'm fine with strong Dems going of FOX. And when I say "Strong" I mean can hold their own in an interview. Biden is not my favorite guy, but he's a good interview.
It's the yukking it up like Joementum does with Hannity that pisses me off.
So, if your there to crack some skulls—go on and do damage. If not, shut the fuck up and stay off.

I like where you're going with that response too, Otto.
I'd like to combine the options for Dems on Fox news: they should go on, but spend their whole segment trashing Fox News. But that's just to make me feel good; probably wouldn't exactly be great for democratic debate.
I watch Fox News occasionally as part of my Know Your Enemy program. I haven't had to lately, since my grumpy old stepfather watches it all the time and spews the rhetoric over dinner (happy Sunday to you too!).
But I'll tune in myself if something big happens. If I hadn't seen Hannity myself during the Katrina fiasco, I may never have believed he could say such callous things in such a tone. (Thank goodness for Shrub's monotony, so I can always just read a transcript.)
