One problem: Jim Webb ain't no John Kerry.
"Weak-kneed attacks by cowards." Now THAT's a knife!"George Felix Allen Jr. and his bush-league lapdog, Dick Wadhams, have not earned the right to challenge Jim Webb's position on free speech and flag burning. Jim Webb served and fought for our flag and what it stands for, while George Felix Allen Jr. chose to cut and run. When he and his disrespectful campaign puppets attack Jim Webb they are attacking every man and woman who served. Their comments are nothing more than weak-kneed attacks by cowards. George Felix Allen Jr. needs to apologize to Jim Webb and to all men and women who have served our nation," Webb spokesman Steve Jarding said.
On Tuesday, George Felix Allen Jr. and his campaign issued a press release in which the Allen campaign, through Wadhams, implied that Webb's position in support of the Free Speech Amendment to the U.S. Constitution amounted to a political act and not a defense of our Constitution, which Webb fought for and for which he was highly decorated. George Felix Allen Jr. did not serve.
"While Jim Webb and others of George Felix Allen Jr.'s generation were fighting for our freedoms and for our symbols of freedom in Vietnam, George Felix Allen Jr. was playing cowboy at a dude ranch in Nevada. People who live in glass dude ranches should not question the patriotism of real soldiers who fought and bled for this country on a real battlefield," Jarding said.

I love the way they're handling this -- especially the use of Allen's full name. "Felix" makes him sound all homolike, and the "Jr." reminds them he's daddy's boy.
I'm liking Webb more and more, and I sincerely hope he's only the first of the Reaganites to defect from the Holy Republican Party.
Speaking of names, you know what the Allen campaign manager's full name is?
Dick Wadhams.
Seriously. Unless there's a guy out there named Raging Asshole, that's about as accurate a handle as we're going to get.
Ha! Hadn't even noticed the felixity of "Dick Wadhams."
And "Felix"? Well, that explains his bully complex.
Webb has been more impressive than I thought he'd be. I really thought he'd be a republican running as a dem, but he's exhibited a good grasp of the fundamental differences betw. repubs and dems these days.
My one concern is his awful, terrible, riding-on-his-head-like-an-inner-tube on-a-wave hairpiece.
You think that's a hairpiece? Looks like the real deal in the photos I've seen.
Those of us who are balding spend quite a lot of time looking at other guys' hair, and when I see Webb's hair I get one of those "disturbance in the force" feelings.
I'll do some more looking.
