We Need a Name That's Witty at First, But Seems Less Funny Each Time You Hear It

Crooks and Liars has an outstanding segment from Keith Olbermann.

Apparently, there's a right-wing rock duo who call themselves "the Right Brothers" and who've put together a song called "Bush Was Right." You really need to watch the clip to get the full flavor of the song, but it's essentially a watered-down, clumsier version of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire," just without a sense of rhythm, musical skill, or actual history. And the title would be "Yeah, Bush Started the Fire, and If You Don't Like the Way the Country's Burning, Get Out, Faggot." Otherwise, just the same.

Apparently, the Right Brothers are demanding that MTV play the song, even though they don't yet have a video. (Olbermann's crew has helpfully provided one.) And if MTV doesn't show the song, then it's proof of that dirty librul media. It's the kind of self delusion and paranoia you'd expect from hardcore Bush supporters.

You really need to watch the whole clip. Olbermann's take is, as always, brilliant.

Steve Gilliard has more on this.

Stupid out of touch neo-cons...don't they realize MTV doesn't play videos anymore?

Good point. They should put Rove, Libby, Condi, Karen, Uncle Dick, Dubya, and Alan Keyes in the West Wing and film it as "Real World: Washington."

Why Alan Keyes? Because every "Real World" is required to have an Angry Crazy Black Man™.

I think I have a much better understanding of that 35% of America that still supports this prez.

I especially enjoyed Olbermann spitting out his drink.

Occasionally he crossesover into Daily Show territory, but I don't mind.

"...the tune is so catchy, and the music is so driving, you can’t help but sing along (especially on the chorus)!"

Did whoever wrote that actually listen to the song?!

Maybe this is why Cheney is lobbying to keep torture legal. Listening to this song over and over again would surely qualify.

Did you ever see that SNL skit where they trap Hanson in an elevator and force them to listen to "MMMBop" over and over until they crack? Musical torture is one of the most painful kinds.

I don't remember the SNL sketch, but there was a story recently about a high school that raised money by playing "MMMBop" over and over again until the kids ponied up enough cash.

Otto, what exactly were those kids ponying cash up for? Is this the new way to jilt the first-graders out of their milkmoney?

It was for Hurricane Katrina relief. Here's the full
