What He Said

Ed Kilgore has a nice post up at the TPM Cafe about the coming fight over O'Connor's seat. I think he's absolutely right -- the Religious Right feels they're owed this seat, and unless they get someone guaranteed to overturn Roe, they're going to go after Bush like a plague of locusts.

This is the reason Bush was pushed into politics for this moment.

Like Clinton with the sex affairs, Bush has screwed any chance he has delivering on his presidency's potential because of the "police action" in Iraq.

One screwed an intern, the other screwed the country. I don't think we can equate the two.

Kids, kids, you're both right. Clinton's wild ride on Mount Blubberhorn ain't nothing compared to Dubya's excellent adventure in Iraq, but the media and those to whom they are beholden managed to relativize Clinton's stuff right up to the level of, say, lying the country into a war.

On topic, I also thought the Kilgore take was excellent. Bush has written a check that his ass must now cash, or else the "Christian" coalition will make a forcible withdrawal.

The wingnut right are totally W's beeyatches. He can ignore them and dole out millions of tax dollars into their churches and they'll fall into line. He's all about rolling back the laws protecting nature (aka God's creation) and couldn't really care about putting ten commandments in churches. (Keeping the gays out of churches, on the other hand. . .)
