Great Moments in Conservative Mathematizing

The candidates for gubernor in this year's Virginia election (yeah, we like to be diff'rent from the rest of the country) had a kinda sorta debate this week: instead of, you know, debating each other, each of the three candidates took questions from reporters for an hour. Here's GOP candidate Jerry Kilgore trying to show why he'd be the bestest governor ever:

In his opening statement, Kilgore veered to the subject of illegal immigration and Herndon's recent vote to spend $170,000 through a county grant to fund a site for day laborers.

"The government shouldn't subsidize the behavior of those illegally in this country," he said. "Fairfax could have hired 10 more teachers."

Yeah, that's right, Killy. We pay our teachers $17,000 a year. And we pay our cops with pieces of bread covered with mayonaise.

By the way, if you're interested in the VA governor's race, Ed Kilgore (who swears there's no relation) gives a good rundown here.

OK, at least you are not in Georgia where teachers are only paid by the lottery - yet no casinos...

Anywho, I would also like to point out that we should applaud ANYONE in the government who is actually counting the money.

$200 Billion - to be cut out of the current federal budget. Isn't the cost cutting of the levees what got us into this mess?

Can you imagine what the reaction would have been 20 years ago if you said that in 2005 America would be completely financially dependent on the largesse of a Communist nation?
