Free Fallin'

As President Bush gets ready to address the nation, it's worth noting just how pissed off that nation is:
President Bush will deliver his State of the Union address Tuesday night to a nation that's strongly opposed to his plan for increasing troops in Iraq and deeply unhappy with his performance as president, according to a CBS News poll.

Mr. Bush’s overall approval rating has fallen to just 28 percent, a new low, while more than twice as many (64 percent) disapprove of the way he's handling his job.
According to the metrics developed by Kung Fu Monkey, we're only one percentage point away from the rock-bottom of Republican support.

By all accounts today, Bush will be speaking about domestic issues. So he won't have to talk about Iraq or any other mess.

My theory, though, is that there is a small piece of him that realizes he's gone. That's he's 1% away from his only supporters being the 27% of Americans that are irrationally crazy. So he throws cauthion out the window and uses the Bully Pulpit. Iran, Syria, North Korea...all thrown into the speech not only as an Axis of Evil but he also says "we're comin' to git ya." Fuck it. Congress will just block him, so what's he have to lose? He can go crazy all day.

When numbers get this lopsided on the negative side, it makes no sense to keep referring to it as "approval rating."

Everyone should be citing a 64 percent disapproval rating.
